The first room for consuming prohibited drugs opens in Britain: why.

The first room for drug consumption will open in Great Britain
On January 13, the first room for consuming prohibited drugs will open in Great Britain. All procedures will be conducted under the supervision of medical personnel. According to BBC information, this facility is named Thistle and is located in the eastern part of Glasgow. Many people in this area use drugs in public places. In Thistle, clients will be able to inject illegally acquired heroin or cocaine under the supervision of medical staff.
The main goal of the project is to reduce the number of overdoses and the harm from drugs, as well as to make drug use less noticeable to society. Funding for this program is provided by the Scottish government. People who visit the facility will not be prosecuted for possession of prohibited drugs.
No drugs will be provided at Thistle; clients must bring their own. However, some local residents do not support this idea, believing that it will lead to an increase in drug trafficking in the area.
It should be noted that in 2023, a record number of overdose deaths were registered in England and Wales, and the mortality rate in Scotland was more than twice as high for the same year.
It is worth mentioning that in 2021, the youngest cocaine dealer in the history of Britain - a nine-year-old primary school student - was arrested. However, he was not charged as he was not yet 10 years old and therefore bears no criminal responsibility in England and Wales.
