The War in Ukraine Highlights the Need for Independence from Russia in the Energy Sector - European Commission
Danish Jørgensen, a member of the European Commission for Energy and Housing, stated at a press conference in Vilnius that European countries must be completely independent from Russia in the energy sector. He emphasized the need to protect critical energy infrastructure.
According to Jørgensen, the synchronization of the Baltic countries with Europe contributes to lowering electricity prices in Europe. He also stressed that energy policy is security policy, especially important after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
In total, the synchronization project in the Baltic States and Poland has attracted investments of about 1.6 billion euros, of which 1.2 billion euros came from European Union funds.
