Ukrainians honor the memory of those who died in the Russo-Ukrainian war
On January 30, 2025, Oleg Khomytskyi, a 33-year-old football fan of the 'Karpaty' club and holder of one of the toughest titles in triathlon competitions 'Ironman', died at the front. This was reported by the Lviv City Council and the organization 'Plast. Lviv'.
Oleg Khomytskyi was born in Lviv on September 15, 1991, and studied at high school No. 66 of the Lviv City Council. He was a Plast member and an active participant in Plast events and trainings.
“He actively participated in Plast until December 2007. He set an example of a sporty lifestyle for others,” said the organization “Plast. Lviv”.
At the beginning of the war, he defended Ukraine and continued to engage in sports even at the front. Oleg Khomytskyi obtained higher education at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in 'tourism'.
Oleg Khomytskyi was a fan of the 'Karpaty' football club and was passionate about running, swimming, and water rafting. He also won awards in triathlon competitions 'Ironman'.
“Oleg had a very strong character. He participated in many actions to 'neutralize' anti-Ukrainian elements on the streets of Lviv,” said his friend Anton Petriiskyi.
Oleg Khomytskyi voluntarily joined the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He carried out combat missions in the Donetsk direction of the front.
Oleg Khomytskyi passed away on January 30, 2025. The funeral took place on February 4 at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul, and the defender was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Oleg Khomytskyi is survived by his parents, wife, and child. In memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for the freedom and independence of the state, we light candles and honor their memory during a nationwide minute of silence.
