In Ukraine, cotton ripened, planted for gunpowder production.

Ukraine has started an experiment with growing imported cotton varieties for gunpowder production. The last Time cotton was grown in the country was in the mid-20th century.
In May 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law that simplifies the import of cotton varieties into Ukraine. The government started an experiment with cultivation in the south of the country. Test fields are located in the Odesa region. Five imported cotton varieties were sown in these areas.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has already received interim results of the experiment. The first "bolls" of cotton have already formed, indicating the possibility of the plant maturing in the Ukrainian climate. The next step is to harvest at various stages of maturity for further examination in the laboratories of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Strategic Industries. There they will determine if the fiber is suitable for gunpowder production for artillery.
