UN named the number of civilians killed in Ukraine for August.


In August 2024, at least 184 civilians were killed as a result of Russian shelling, and 856 were injured. This was stated by the head of the UN Monitoring Mission Daniel Bell. He emphasized that terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure caused prolonged power outages across the country, as well as the destruction of hospitals, schools, supermarkets, and other important facilities.
According to Bell, 184 civilians were killed in August, and 856 people were injured, making it the second highest casualty count among the population in 2024 after July. According to the UN report, August 26 saw one of the largest coordinated air attacks since February 2022. This attack resulted in the deaths of 8 civilians and the damage to 25 energy facilities in 15 regions. On August 30, an air strike on Kharkiv took the lives of 6 civilians and injured at least 44 people. On September 1, a rocket attack on Kharkiv resulted in the death of one medical worker and the injury of 11 civilians. On September 4, multiple weapon attacks in Lviv resulted in the deaths of 7 civilians and injuries to 62 people. This incident was the first with civilian casualties in Lviv since February 2024.
