Unusual accounts will appear on Instagram.

The social network Instagram will introduce teenage accounts for users under 18 years old. These accounts will have a high level of protection and will be private by default. Meta, the company that owns the social network, announced this.
«We know that parents want to be confident that their children can use social networks to communicate with friends and explore their interests without worrying about dangerous or unacceptable things. We understand parents’ concerns, and that’s why we are rethinking our apps for teenagers, creating new teenage accounts», – the statement said.
The company stated that teenage accounts will have built-in protection tools that restrict the circle of people who can contact teenagers, as well as the content they can see. For teenagers under 16, changing any settings to less strict ones will require parental permission.
Among the main settings of teenage accounts will be privacy restrictions, messaging limits, sensitive content limits, interaction restrictions, enabled sleep mode, and reminders about Time spent on the social network.
Meta plans to introduce teenage accounts in the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia within the next 60 days. In the EU, these accounts will be available later this year.
Starting from January 2025, new accounts will be available for teenagers worldwide. Additionally, the company plans to add teenage accounts to other Meta platforms next year.
Recall that in June, the social network Instagram, which belongs to Meta, launched a new feature: users can now conduct online broadcasts only for their «close friends» list.
Moreover, Meta announced that Instagram and Threads users can limit political content in their feeds with a new feature.
