Lawyers explained to drivers which documents do not need to be shown at checkpoints.

Ukrainians were told which documents the driver can refuse to show at the checkpoint.
In the last two and a half years, since the start of the large-scale military conflict, checkpoints have become a common phenomenon for Ukrainian motorists. Security forces use them to check drivers, passengers, and vehicles. However, it is important to note that the powers of law enforcement agencies at these points are not unlimited.
At the same Time, lawyers point out that police officers at checkpoints have increasingly started to present claims to drivers for traffic violations detected after the vehicle has been stopped. In addition, there have been more frequent cases where drivers are required to present a driver's license and insurance policy, the absence of which may result in a fine.
However, Ukrainians are informed that such police actions are illegal. The fact is that Cabinet Resolution No. 1455 of 29.12.2021, which regulates the activities of checkpoints, clearly states that they are set up to verify the identity of citizens, vehicles, and their cargo. And driver's licenses or insurance policies are not listed among the documents subject to inspection, nor is compliance with traffic rules.
Therefore, lawyers recommend reminding police officers about this regulatory act in case of such claims. If the police still issue a fine, Ukrainians are advised not to hesitate and to appeal it in court. Since such actions by law enforcement representatives exceed the law, any imposed penalty is subject to cancellation.
Previously, drivers were reminded about which document is necessary to have when driving.
