UEFA recognized a refereeing error that helped Spain reach the semifinals of Euro-2024. According to Relevo, in the quarter-final against Germany, the score was 1:1, but the referees did not award a penalty after the ball hit the hand of Spanish defender Cucurella.
According to the UEFA report, Cucurella stopped a shot on goal with his hand, so the referee should have awarded a penalty. Those responsible for VAR also made a mistake.
Spain scored the winning goal in the 119th minute and entered the final, where they defeated England 2:1. This is Spain's fourth victory at the Euro.
In addition, FIFA presented an updated world ranking of national football teams based on the results of Euro-2024 and the Copa America. Ukraine lost 24th place in the ranking.
