Maksym and Oleksii were pilots who heroically died during a defensive operation to protect the country. Maksym gave his life on June 29 while performing a combat mission, while Oleksii did not return from his last flight on August 26, 2024. Their courage and selflessness on the front lines are unmatched. They began their journey at a military academy as future officers, and now their names will forever be part of the history of the city of Kharkiv. On the night of June 29, defending against the Russian assault, pilot of the 1st class, Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Ustymenko, died in an F-16 aircraft. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to the fallen pilot.
