Return of 'Reciprocal' Tariffs
US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent warned of the possibility of reintroducing tariffs to 'reciprocal' levels if a trade agreement is not reached within 90 days. President Trump also reserves the right to restore tariffs that have been suspended during this period.
According to the Secretary, the US government is actively working on agreements with 18 trading partners and potential regional agreements. A temporary de-escalation of the trade war with China has raised optimism in the markets, but rising prices on goods due to tariffs may pose a serious challenge for American businesses, particularly small businesses.
