The US is discussing the lifting of sanctions on Russian energy assets and 'Nord Stream', - Politico.

According to Politico, the White House is discussing the possibility of lifting sanctions on the Russian 'Nord Stream-2' gas pipeline and other Russian assets in Europe as part of discussions about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. The resumption of construction of the gas pipeline could lead to financial benefits for Russia only if the EU starts buying Russian gas again, which is unlikely due to the refusal to import Russian energy resources. The deans added that the White House special envoy Steve Mniszek is a major proponent of lifting sanctions. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Mniszek issued a statement refuting information about a possible easing of sanctions.
The Biden administration has also added the Russian LNG project 'Arctic-2' to the sanctions list. The process of lifting energy-related sanctions has not yet found support in the White House. Analyst Laurent Rusecas expressed the opinion that allowing Russia to resume gas supplies through 'Nord Stream-2' or 'Arctic-2 LNG' would lead to a decrease in global gas prices and put American LNG exporters in direct competition with Russia. Several outsiders, including Stephen Lynch, CEO of Monte Valley Partners, are lobbying for the lifting of sanctions and specializing in the acquisition of Russian assets in energy infrastructure. Former spy Matthias Warnig is also working to resume construction of the pipeline with support from American investors.
