Approximately 40% of Kyiv residents live on the left bank, while 80% of jobs are located on the right bank. Transport planning expert Dmytro Bespalov reported this imbalance.
According to him, due to this problem, city residents are forced to cross the overloaded crossings every day.
'The main problem in Kyiv's urban planning is the imbalance in the distribution of the population and jobs. Approximately 40% of Kyivans live on the left bank, while a significant majority of jobs are on the right bank. Therefore, residents of Kyiv have to travel across bridges from the left bank to the right to work. Each bridge becomes extremely important for us due to the heavy loads,' explained Bespalov.
He also noted that developers of old plans focused on residential construction specifically on the left bank.
'The developers of old master plans understood that a lot of housing was being built on the left bank, and they envisioned a business center, Kyiv City, where the expo center is currently located on the left bank. They had the idea of Kyiv City in the 80s-90s during the Soviet era.'
