Did the Russians breach the border in Sumy region? The authorities reported the situation in the area.


The press service of the Sumy regional military administration reported that the Russian troops did not cross the border in the Sumy region. This information is a reaction to the news from the media about hostilities along the border of the Sumy district on January 5. According to the statement of the regional military administration, there was no breach of the border or advance of Russian troops. Only separate sabotage groups of Russians entered the territory of Ukraine, but they were destroyed.
"There was no crossing of the Ukrainian border by Russian troops in the Sumy region. As for the ground situation: separate sabotage groups of the enemy entered the territory of Ukraine, but their actions were promptly responded to by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and border guards. And Russian DRGs were mostly destroyed," the message from the OVA states.
As of now, the number of recorded artillery and air strikes in the region has significantly increased. In the last 5 days, 338 strikes have been recorded. This is four times more than in the same period of the previous year.
The main means for aerial attacks are guided bombs, FPV drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles. In the first 5 days of 2025, FPV drones delivered 129 strikes.
The most affected places by the bombardments are the settlements of the Sumy and Shostka districts.
The media reported that today, January 5, in the areas of several villages in Kursk, Russian troops attacked the state border of Ukraine using armored vehicles.
It was also reported today that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have intensified in Kursk and began to attack the Russians. They are fighting using artillery and small arms, and Ukraine has employed Western armored vehicles.
On January 2, the Armed Forces of Ukraine delivered a precision strike on the command post of the occupying Russian army in the settlement of Mariyne.
