Xiaomi electric vehicle sales have fallen significantly after a fatal accident.

Xiaomi electric vehicle sales have decreased in China due to an accident and car defects
According to Deutsche Bank AG, Xiaomi electric vehicle sales in China have significantly dropped since March 2025 following a tragic accident and the brand's unsuccessful marketing efforts.
This trend continued to exist in May.
Supplies have also suffered. Local media reported the cancellation of over 300 orders for the SU7 Ultra EV due to misleading advertising regarding the car's hood design. This situation arose after a fatal accident involving the SU7 in late March, which resulted in the deaths of three people.
Sales decline and additional issues
Citi Research data indicates a sharp decline in orders and retail sales in April after the accident. Initial sales growth indicators quickly diminished.
Besides the decrease in consumer demand, the accident has led to increased attention to electric vehicle safety issues. Chinese authorities have begun tightening controls on the implementation of advanced driver assistance systems and establishing new electric vehicle safety standards.
Overall, the decline in Xiaomi electric vehicle sales in China is related to decreased consumer trust in marketing and vehicle safety following the tragic accident and deficiencies in their design.
