The Consequences of War: How Many Children Are in Orphanages in Ukraine.


Protecting the rights of children in orphanages and during reorganization is an important issue for the State Service of Ukraine for Children, reported the head of this service, Petro Dobromilskyi.
According to Dobromilskyi, there are a total of 1,114 children in orphanages, including medical rehabilitation and palliative care centers.
In particular, among them:
- 704 children are orphans or deprived of parental care;
- 410 children are in institutions due to difficult circumstances or parental wishes.
Regarding health status:
- 405 children have disabilities;
- 216 children require palliative care;
- 418 children have chronic diseases or functional disorders that are in a compensated state;
- 75 children are physically healthy.
There are 383 children in medical rehabilitation and palliative care centers (reformed orphanages), of which 72 require palliative care. In unformed orphanages, there are 731 children, of which 144 require palliative care.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine monitors the process of reforming orphanages, and the State Service of Ukraine for Children ensures that the rights and interests of all children are properly protected.
