Meta Challenges Nvidia: The Company Plans to Acquire Chipmaker FuriosaAI.


The tech giant Meta is negotiating to acquire the South Korean company FuriosaAI, which specializes in chip manufacturing. This is necessary to strengthen the infrastructure of AI hardware.
According to information provided by TechCrunch, the acquisition deal could be announced as early as this month. FuriosaAI is a startup founded by former employees of Samsung and AMD.
FuriosaAI is engaged in developing chips that enhance the performance and operation of AI models, including text generation models such as Llama 2 and Llama 3 from Meta.
According to Crunchbase, FuriosaAI has already raised approximately $61.94 million from investors, including the South Korean company Naver. Additionally, FuriosaAI has been negotiating with potential buyers in the US, Japan, and India.
Meta is trying to reduce its dependence on Nvidia, which is authoritative in the chip market. This move also highlights Meta's investments in the development of high-performance processors for AI. This year, Meta plans to allocate $65 billion for the development of AI technologies.
