Deterioration of air quality in Kyiv due to fires in the ecosystems of Kyiv region
On September 20, the environmental situation in the capital of Ukraine significantly worsened due to fires in the ecosystems of the Kyiv region, particularly in the Vyshhorod district. The Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration reports that this has become the main factor for air pollution.
Information from the city's ecologists indicates an abnormal increase in the concentration of suspended particles in the air. Some areas of Kyiv have reached a critical air pollution rating of 100 points on a 100-point scale. The best situation is observed on the left bank of the city, where the pollution level is 74 points, corresponding to the average value of the scale.
According to the IQair ranking, which assesses the level of air pollution in large cities worldwide, Kyiv ranked first, surpassing Cairo (Egypt) and Jakarta (Indonesia).
Due to the environmental hazard, the city administration urges Kyiv residents to take preventive measures. In particular, keep windows closed, limit Time spent outdoors, drink more water, and use air purifiers indoors.
