Starting from April 1 of this year, prostitutes in Italy will be able to officially register their professional activity. According to the new code, activities such as providing escort services, organizing events, and managing specialized premises will now be officially regulated. Prostitution in Italy operates in a gray area, where individuals can provide sexual services, but this activity does not have clear legislative regulation. Organizing such services in the form of collective premises, such as brothels, is illegal. Under the new conditions, sex workers will be able to use new ATECO codes to obtain a tax code and legalize their activities. The National Institute of Statistics considers the activity of sex workers as 'personal services', similar to tattoo salons and party organizers. The new classification for 2025 also mentions sex work as part of changes in the accounting rules of the European Union. However, in the Italian context, only legal types of activity will be included in the ATECO classification. Illegal activities, such as organizing prostitution networks, remain prohibited even at the European level. The official inclusion of sexual services into the fiscal and statistical system may have significant impacts on the economy and social status of prostitutes in Italy. Regulating these services will help reduce the shadow sector and provide greater safety and legal protection for sex workers. Additionally, including this sector in the fiscal system will allow the state to control tax revenues and ensure a fair distribution of income. However, regulating this area may prove to be a challenging task due to moral and ethical aspects. Implementing new legislation requires significant efforts from the government and cooperation with sex workers and the public as a whole.
