The EU received more ‘green’ electricity than from fossil fuels in half a year.

The EU exceeded the 50% milestone in renewable energy use
According to the annual report «State of the Energy Union», the EU demonstrated significant achievements in the use of renewable energy sources (RES). In the first half of this year, it surpassed the 50% mark of energy received from RES. This was the first Time when RES exceeded fossil fuels in terms of produced energy volumes.
EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson sees this as a success, noting that «the EU is now well-equipped to achieve its climate neutrality goals».
However, there is a problem with the lack of long-term climate plans of EU countries (NECPs – National energy and climate plans), which are necessary for tracking progress in achieving the EU's climate goals by 2030.
The commissioner urged member states to submit their national energy and climate plans (NECPs). Unfortunately, as of today, the European Commission has received only 10 such plans, thereby missing the deadline, which was June 30.
Germany and France have already presented their plans, while Spain and Poland have not yet met this requirement.
