France will allocate 10 million euros for the repair of the shelter at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant
The French government has decided to allocate 10 million euros for the restoration of the protective shelter of the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was damaged during a drone attack.
During the 34th Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, the special envoy of the President of France Pierre Elbrun and EBRD Vice President Mark Bowman signed an agreement on this funding.
'I am grateful to the Government of France for the decision to provide funding for the restoration of the protective sarcophagus over the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Your contribution is extremely important for ensuring nuclear safety not only in Ukraine but also worldwide,' said Olga Zykova.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Finance, safety facilities need to transition from emergency response to prevention strategy and ensuring sustainable safety. Investments in the modernization and security of Chernobyl, physical protection, and international funding are extremely important.
The EBRD, together with Ukrainian experts and Bouygues, is developing options for the long-term restoration of the shelter. It is planned to allocate 5 million euros from the Fund for these measures. The total costs for restoration are over 100 million euros.
Stable support for Chernobyl
According to the EBRD, since 1995 the international community has provided over 2 billion euros for the implementation of programs in Chernobyl. The allocation of funding for the repair of the shelter indicates continued support for the safety of nuclear facilities and contributes to sustainable development.
