The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, arrived in Ukraine on June 3 and met with Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. This is Grossi's 12th visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

During the meeting, Grossi and Halushchenko discussed the possibilities for IAEA assistance in restoring Ukraine's energy infrastructure, particularly regarding the Khmelnytsky and Chernobyl nuclear power plants. The Russians plan to launch reactors at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which could have unforeseen consequences. Minister Halushchenko urged the IAEA to prevent a catastrophic scenario.

Former head of operations at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Oleg Dudar, believes that the Russians lack the necessary knowledge and qualified personnel to operate the plant.

IAEA experts have also recorded military activity around Ukrainian nuclear stations. Data indicate plans by Russia to illegally occupy additional territories of Ukraine. An incident involving a drone that fell on the building of the training center of the station was also recorded.

During the visit of the IAEA director general to Ukraine, issues of nuclear safety, potential dangers resulting from Russian actions near nuclear power plants, and joint measures to prevent possible disasters were discussed.
