Representatives of the United States and Russia will discuss the war in Ukraine
Representatives of the United States and Russia will meet on February 18 in Saudi Arabia to discuss the possibility of ending the Russian war in Ukraine. This was announced by the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, Tammy Bruce.
The meeting will involve Secretary of State Mark Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and the U.S. special envoy for Middle East affairs Steve Vitkoff. The goal of the meeting is to check the Russians' willingness for peace talks.
'This is a continuation of the initial conversation between [President of Russia Vladimir] Putin and [U.S. President Donald] Trump about whether this first step is even possible, what interests are at play, and whether it can be pursued at all,' said the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department.
However, the State Department spokesperson emphasizes that the meeting does not imply progress in negotiations regarding the end of the war.
'I don't think people should see this as details or progress in terms of negotiations,' added Tammy Bruce.
