Denmark strengthens defense of Greenland after Trump's statements.

The Danish government has announced an increase in defense spending for Greenland following U.S. President Donald Trump's statement about the desire to purchase this Arctic territory.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen noted that expenses would amount to 'double-digit billion amounts' in crowns, or at least 1.5 billion dollars.

Greenland has significant strategic importance for the United States due to its location on the way to Europe and the presence of large reserves of minerals and oil.

Denmark plans to acquire two new inspection vessels, two long-range drones, and additional dog sled teams as part of a new defense package. There is also an intention to increase the staff of the Arctic Command and modernize Greenland's airport to service F-35 fighters.

Media estimates the costs at around 12-15 billion crowns, which amounts to at least 1.6 billion dollars.

This decision comes due to years of underinvestment in the Arctic and aims to strengthen Denmark's presence in the region, Poulsen noted.

This is not the first statement by Trump about the intention to purchase Greenland, as well as about restoring U.S. control over the Panama Canal to preserve national security and freedom worldwide.
